Instructions for use of syrup Ambrobene for children and adults

This drug is often used by parents to treat children's colds, and doctors regularly prescribe it to adults. How to apply it correctly, what is the price of Ambrobene syrup and does it have analogues?

Release form, composition and pharmacological action

The popular medicine Ambrobene is a mucolytic agent and is actively used for colds, coughs and bronchitis. It comes in tablets, capsules, syrup and injection.

Each type of this drug is used only on prescription, depending on the diagnosis and the severity of the disease. Syrup is most popular because it can be used at the initial stage of a cold, and it is convenient to use, especially for children. Syrup is a colorless liquid with the smell and taste of raspberry. It consists of:

  • active ingredient - 0.3 g of ambroxol hydrochloride;
  • additional substances - 70% sorbitol solution, propylene glycol, sweetener with raspberry flavor and purified water.

Ambroxol, which is the main component of the syrup, has a secretory-motive action and helps to expectorate sputum from the bronchi, which speeds up the healing process. The drug begins to act about half an hour after administration and continues for 12 hours.

The duration of the drug depends on the dose that was taken. Studies have shown that Ambroxol acts as a stimulant for the bronchial mucosa. Stimulating its glands, Ambroxol reduces thereby the viscosity of sputum and improves its elimination from the body.

The antioxidant effect of ambroxol has also been identified, which, in combination with light antibiotics, makes it possible to more effectively remove sputum from the bronchus and in a shorter time to cope with cough and bronchitis.

Indications and contraindications

Indications for the use of Ambrobene syrup are the presence and development of the following symptoms and diseases:

  • respiratory complication with viscous sputum;
  • cough;
  • acute and chronic bronchitis;
  • pneumonia;
  • bronchial asthma with sputum.

However, it is worth remembering that self-medication is not safe and can lead to complications and adversely affect health. There is a drug and contraindications:

  • hypersensitivity to the components of the syrup;
  • peptic ulcer disease;
  • fructose intolerance;
  • sucrose deficiency;
  • the first 20 weeks of pregnancy;
  • breastfeeding period.
It should be remembered that the tablets and injections of Ambroxol, which have the same name as syrup, have their own contraindications and you should carefully read them before use.

It is also worth knowing that the simultaneous use of syrup with other medicinal mucolytic agents is not recommended, since it can be difficult to remove sputum from the bronchi in spite of a decrease in cough.

Ambrobene baby syrup: instructions for use

It is much more pleasant for babies to drink sweet raspberry syrup as a medicine, therefore Ambrobene is ideal for treating colds in children from 1 to 14 years old. In one teaspoon is 15 mg of ambroxol - the active substance.

The syrup is produced in a bottle, the lid of which is also a measuring cup at the same time. Due to the reasonableness of manufacturers, problems with measuring out the correct dose will not.

Use the medicine with food or immediately after it, following the dosing regimen:

  • up to two years - ½ tsp. 2 times a day;
  • from two to five years - 1 tsp. 3 times a day;
  • from 10 to 14 years - 10 ml 3 times a day.

This dosage is observed for colds and cough. In the case of acute bronchitis, you should use three days for 10 ml 3 times a day, and then reduce the dose initially by 2 times, and then the number of doses. Use of medication should be coordinated with the pediatrician before use.

Medication during pregnancy and lactation

Studies that would show all the data regarding Ambrobene's effect on pregnant women and their children were not conducted for ethical reasons. Therefore, Ambrobene syrup is prescribed only in the II and III trimesters and only as prescribed by the attending physician.

Before an appointment, a thorough assessment of the intended benefits of treatment for the mother and the possible risk to the child must be made.

It is known that Ambroxol penetrates the placenta, so mothers are recommended to take it only after 28 weeks of pregnancy. In the first 28 weeks of its use is undesirable.

During breastfeeding, abroxol is also in residual and in breast milk, but it does not harm the baby. It is still desirable, during lactation and the simultaneous use of the drug to observe precautions.

Side effects and overdose

As with any drug, Ambrobene has side effects. They may be as follows:

  • allergic reaction (urticaria, rash, swelling, shortness of breath and itching);

  • at the same time using ambroxol and antitussive agents, there can be stagnation of secretions, since the drugs suppress the cough reflex;
  • co-administration of ambroxol and antibiotics (amoxicillin, cefuroxime, doxycycline) may increase the accumulation of the latter in sputum and secretions.

Reviews

In the fall, our baby went into the garden and very quickly, as we expected, brought a cough from there. Moreover, the cough was dry, the child suffered, because the throat is very sore from dry cough, but there is no relief. It was decided to call a pediatrician, who, without thinking twice, appointed Ambrobene.

We drank it a week, 1 teaspoon three times a day immediately after meals. The child liked the syrup, because it has a pronounced raspberry flavor, so there were no problems with its use.

On the second day, sputum appeared. We additionally drank a lot of warm milk and tea, so on the 4th day the cough began to pass, and after 3 days the child was completely healthy and went to the garden.

With the arrival of autumn, I catch a cold very quickly. And often this is not a full cold, but a cold or cough separately. This time I started coughing hard, but my sputum was not expectorated. My throat ached terribly, they did not save either pills or warm drinks.

It started to hurt badly in the chest, but nothing helped. I went to the doctor and he advised me to drink Ambrobene. At first I wanted to buy pills, but the pharmacist advised the syrup - the effect is the same, but it is more pleasant to drink it, because it softens the throat mucosa.

Saw 10 ml three times a day. A very convenient package of medication - the cap is a measuring cup, so nothing extra was measured. On the second day of taking the medication, the cough became wet — sputum began to come out. The chest pain subsided and my throat began to ache less. Full recovery was at 5-6 days after the start of taking Ambrobene.

Immediately after the New Year, I fell ill. At first everything was like a cold, but a week passed and it became clear that she had grown into something more. When I went to the hospital, I was diagnosed with acute bronchitis. I got a bunch of antibiotics and Ambrobene syrup.

I remember, I also asked the doctor why syrup if there are antibiotics? He replied that their interaction strengthens expectoration of sputum, and the syrup soothes the throat, which suffers greatly with a strong cough. As a result, the syrup and the price for it (very attractive) became the most pleasant for the whole illness.

He first drank it 20 ml twice a day, then the doctor said to reduce the dose to 10 ml. The phlegm began to recede rather quickly and the sore throat, as well as wheezing in the chest, passed. I buy syrup and now with just starting coughing.
