Dress with bare shoulders: styles, photo and tailoring with their own hands

Dress with open shoulders is a beautiful and elegant piece of clothing. Such a garment will not only attract attention, but also make the lady who wore it more attractive.

However, a dress with bare shoulders is not for everyone, and it will not always be appropriate. But for a solemn occasion, some styles will be just a magic wand, such a dress is also suitable for those who do not want to wear clothes with a neckline, but want to make a note of sexuality in their appearance.

Open shoulders will make it much more subtle, elegant and absolutely not gone. It remains only to make out what styles and who fit.

Who should bare shoulders, and who does not

Of course, no one has the right to forbid someone to wear what they like. However, those who are important to their appearance, these recommendations will be useful and will help to dress with taste in accordance with their figure.

Bare shoulders are far from always in place, some types of figures generally exclude such styles, besides age and some circumstances make you forget about dresses and blouses of this style. So, who and where can safely wear dresses with bare shoulders:

  • dresses, stripping shoulders are very suitable for girls, young girls and young women;
  • slender women with architecturally beautiful shoulders and well-groomed necks, also girls in a body with feminine sloping shoulders can afford this style;
  • Perfectly fit this style high for visual correction of the proportions of the body and hands;
  • with a proportional figure of the type "hourglass" or narrow shoulders with a wide pelvis, such a dress will look harmonious, and in the second case even helps to correct the proportions;
  • girls with a short neck can thus make it visually longer;
  • such dresses will be especially relevant in the hot season;
  • a beautiful floor-length dress with a not-too-deep neckline along the shoulders of dense expensive monochromatic fabric will look incredibly beautiful at the reception;
  • girls and women with beautiful smooth skin can safely wear clothes of this style;
  • open shoulders look best with a straight back, so if you have problems with posture, you need to more carefully look after yourself in this outfit.

Who better to avoid deep cuts on dresses:

  • aged women look with open shoulders not very aesthetically pleasing, since certain changes occur with the skin, it loses its elasticity, pigment spots appear; there are very well-groomed ladies who are exceptions, but this is rare;
  • women and girls with the figure of "triangle" and "apple" emphasize their proportions, wearing such a style of dress; with a “triangle”, open shoulders can only be with a very heavily compensated lower part, for example, with a bell or skirt skirt and other curvaceous styles;
  • It is not recommended to wear dresses with bare shoulders and women with problem skin with acne, pimples, scars, burns and other skin defects, as this will make an unnecessary emphasis on this problem;
  • Excessive fullness is aggravated by this style, especially too defensive shoulder notches look especially defiant at girls of this type; it is worth noting that the neckline to the armpit is appropriate only on the beach for any type of girl, and in other cases it looks vulgar;
  • square or sharp, angular shoulders and excessive thinness will not be decorated with such a style of dress, but rather the opposite will stand out strongly enough;
  • low girls and women with a shortened torso should avoid this style, so the shoulder line "cuts" and crushes the figure, visually reducing growth and hiding proportions; the same can be said about the owners of not too long hands;
  • with a strong curvature of the spine, accompanied by excessively deployed shoulders and shoulder blades, it is better not to wear dresses of this type.

Of course, you can choose a beautiful and perfectly fitting dress, and you can’t have the perfect proportions, but you have to work a little.

Different styles of dresses with open shoulders: casual, festive, wedding

There are a lot of styles of dresses with open or half-open shoulders. Both the top and the bottom can differ, however, I would still like to classify according to the upper part, since it is the main peculiarity of it:

  • a dress with a tight-fitting corset-type bodice made of thick or elastic fabric - this style has a special structure, which is based on the absence of not only the sleeves, but also the line of the shoulder; many ballroom and wedding dresses have such a top, and the skirt can be absolutely anything: straight, tapered pencil, fluffy, fishtail style, floor and medium length, and so on; the bodice itself can have ordinary tucks or be a full-fledged corset; when putting on such a dress for a celebration or reception, it is better to take care of the bolero or stole in advance, which can be thrown over the shoulders if necessary;
  • dresses with sleeves and a detachable shoulder line look very sophisticated, moderately opening the shoulders, while not exposing the arms and the line of the armpit, which looks the most aesthetic; the top can be made of elastic fabric or have thin straps for support, as well as have an embroidered elastic band around the perimeter of the neckline, which not only gathers and drapes the fabric beautifully, but also acts as a dress retainer along the shoulder line;
  • dresses with open shoulders of the above styles can also have a decorative finish in the form of a flounce, sewn along the shoulder line in models with a detachable top or attached to the straps or the upper line of the corsetted style;
  • the variant with a sleeveless detachable top is also often supplied with a yoke - a wide ribbon of the same fabric or other material that girds the shoulders and attaches to the bodice, thereby forming something like small sleeves with an open shoulder line; This dress looks very beautiful, the skirt can also be any, however, it is better not to choose this style of wide-shouldered girls;
  • there are also asymmetrical styles with one bare shoulder and knitted dresses with cutouts on the shoulders.

A special niche in this category is occupied by wedding dresses with bare shoulders. All the styles listed above are applicable to them; corsets can be seen especially often, however, now they are gradually leaving the wedding fashion.

The latest trends are sophisticated dresses with a smooth base material, from which they sew a skirt and bodice with a top line at the level of the clavicles, and a bolero with a sleeve of the finest lace is sewn on top, leaving the shoulders open. This dress looks just great and requires a minimum of jewelry and elegant hair.

Accessories and hairstyles suitable for a dress with open shoulders

Open shoulders are demanding not only to the general condition of the skin and body type, but also pay attention to the face and neck. Therefore, in the choice of jewelry and styling should come carefully.

For a dress in retro style with a fluffy skirt and a neckline on the shoulders or a yoke better fit high bunches, shells and neat styling with elements of curling. For example, retro styling with waves will look very nice.

The same can be said about the bulk dresses with flounce and ruffles, which do not accept excessive pomp in hairstyle. High hairstyle with this style will help pull the figure of girls of small stature with not very long neck.

Corsets and sleeves without sleeves, on the contrary, will look more complete in a combination with falling curls fixed to the face.

Dresses with a detachable line of shoulders with a long neck look interesting with a neck-fitting choker necklace. Also this style is interesting with two levels of beads, when one thread fits the neck, and the second hangs below the chest, which allows you to visually add a couple of centimeters in height.

Flounces look good with simple thin beads of medium length or with chains that slightly go through the line of the dress. Smooth bodices and tight-fitting corsets blend beautifully with voluminous round necklaces that frame the neck and set on the bodice up to the chest line.

Pattern and algorithm for sewing a dress with elastic with open shoulders

In this section, a shelf pattern will be shown for a form-fitting dress with elastic and a sleeve to elbow length. The skirt can be any, if desired, lengthen the sleeve and shelf according to your own standards. Here is an exemplary drawing, made on a piece of paper in the ratio of 1 cell = 1 centimeter:

How to sew an outfit with open shoulders on an elastic band? So, before you cut the dress, you must take measurements. Since it will be made of knitwear, the measurements are not so much:

  1. ST - waist half-cover so that the dress fits well along the waistline;
  2. SB is a chest half-grip, this line is indicated on the drawing by a dotted line on the ledge and back;
  3. DST is the length of the back to the waist, this measurement is taken not from the vertebra, as usual, but from the intended neckline to the waist, by measuring this height, one can understand what the height of the dress bodice will be.

Depending on the style and fabric, the measure may be much larger. The sleeve is constructed depending on its style, length and desired fit. It may also need some measurements.

Design patterns, you can proceed to cutting the dress. It is important to understand that the details of the shelf and backrest are half the element. To carve them out, you can fold the fabric in half, face inwards, pin the pattern to the fold line with a straight edge and circle it.

Parallel to the pattern line, you need to draw a line, retreating 1-1.5 cm for allowances, which then form seams. The sleeve is integral, so it can be safely cut, not forgetting the allowances. It also cuts a strip of the same fabric, equal in length to the shoulder line, 4-5 cm wide, from which after the drawstring for the elastic will be made.

Korda all cut, you can proceed to stitching. Each sleeve is stitched along the internal seam, the shelf and back are sewn together on the sides, and then the armholes are connected to the corresponding notch on the sleeve.

All parts are strewn from the inside and pre-swept. When the top of the dress is assembled, you can begin to insert the drawstring and insert the elastic: the same rectangle, the length of the neck + 2 centimeters to close the seam. Turning the future dress on the face, first tack on the drawstring, turning it in half and rounding the top line so that it is inside.

Sewing the drawstring, you need to tuck in its edge to the centimeter and sew at a distance of no more than 5 mm from it, so that the seam does not spread. Having closed the drawstring in a convenient place (it is best to make it of two parts with seams in the middle of the sleeve), you need to stitch it.

Before finally fastening the drawstring with machine seam, you need to insert a rubber band, previously measured on the shoulders, in the place of the circuit. After the distribution and fixing of the elastic, you can close the seam and do the skirt.

The finished skirt is sewn along the waistline. The skirt in this case can be fluffy, straight, from wedges and so on. One-piece dress is also possible.
