The drug Duphalac: instructions for use for children and adults

Duphalac is a well-known lactulose-based drug for difficult and rare bowel movements. This substance is used as a laxative from the middle of the last century and is produced from lactose contained in dairy products, or rather, in rennet.

Release form, composition and packaging

Duphalac is produced in the form of a viscous syrup, colorless or light yellow. The content of lactulose per 100 ml of the drug is 66.7 g.

Distilled water acts as a substance that promotes absorption in Duphalac. Syrup acts in bottles of 200, 500 ml, there is even a liter. Additionally, for convenience, the container is provided with a measuring cup.

Another possible form of release - disposable bags of 15 grams, ten pieces per pack.

Duphalac: indications and contraindications

Indications for the beginning of the use of "Duphalac" are:

  • frequent loose stools, which may be caused by a bacterial infection;
  • inflammatory disease of the stomach (gastroenteritis), which is caused by infections, such as Salmonella;
  • difficulty digestion, dyspepsia, especially in children when administered;
  • difficulty defecation, for the normalization of the physiological process;
  • intestinal microbial imbalance;
  • disruption of the liver failure;
  • hepatic coma;
  • preoperative preparation - appointed before surgery on the colon and removal of hemorrhoids.

You can not assign patients "Duphalac" with:

  • with lactose intolerance, a hereditary disease of galactosemia;
  • in violation of intestinal peristalsis, obstruction;
  • diabetes;
  • with allergies to medication components.

Duphalac: instructions for use for adults

Duphalac is taken orally, during the morning meal, the doses themselves are set individually by the attending physician.

Dosing depends on the disease being treated:

  1. With difficult bowel movements, depending on the stage of treatment of the disease, - the initial dose (for adults - from 15 to 45 ml) and maintenance (from 10 to 25 ml). Improvements occur on the second day after the start of lactulose intake, that by the very process of its action, in the absence of positive dynamics, the amount of medication increases.
  2. In microbial intestinal imbalances, i.e. dysbacteriosis - 10 ml.
  3. With a state of hepatic coma or precoma - the dose at the early stage of treatment is about 30-45 ml per dose three times a day. Next, the volume of the drug set individually to defecation was carried out about 3 times a day. Among other things, the drug may be administered as a solution for administration to the rectum, i.e. for enema, 300-700 ml.
  4. For diseases caused by salmonella or shigella - 15 ml three times a day for about 10-12 days, then also, but five times a day.

Instructions for use for newborns and older children

Since Duphalac is a medication with a fairly small number of contraindications, it is also used to treat children:

  1. For difficult bowel movements, the dose for newborns and children under three years old is 5 ml, for children from 3 to 6 years, 5-10 ml each, from 7 to 14, 15 ml each at an early stage of treatment and 10 years later.
  2. With a microbial imbalance of the intestine, babies up to a year - 1.5-3 ml, from 1 year to 3 - 3 ml, from 4 to 7 years - 5 ml, those over 7 - 10 ml.

In other cases, the dose is set individually.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

"Duphalac" is prescribed for the treatment of pregnant and lactating women, due to the safety of the components of this drug, their natural origin. Lactulose has no effect on the reproductive function of a person, as well as on the development of the fetus. However, in some cases, the drug can cause an increase in muscle tone in the uterus due to gas pollution.

Side effects and overdose

In the first days of reception in some patients, an excessive accumulation of gas in the stomach, which quickly disappears, after about 2-3 days. Another side effect is vomiting.

Patients with hepatic encephalopathy sometimes suffer from electrolyte imbalance associated with diarrhea caused by prolonged high doses. If you exceed the dose, there may be abdominal pain, as well as diarrhea.

In order to get rid of the manifestation of such side effects, manufacturers recommend changing the dosage or even stop taking.

Drug interactions, special instructions

Manufacturers indicate that Duphalac affects the mechanism of action in the body of drugs, the release of which is associated with pH, because the acidity of the intestinal medium decreases.

Special instructions for taking the medication:

  • in the absence of positive dynamics and recurrence of difficulty defecation within 2-3 days from the beginning of the reception, you must seek a second consultation with your doctor;
  • in the treatment of patients with intolerance to the components of the drug, it is necessary to take into account the content of lactose and other components per dose of the drug;
  • Duphalac is prescribed with special care to patients with impaired glucose absorption (in syrup the residual sugar content is 0.075 XU per 5 ml), especially in the treatment of hepatic precoma, when the doses are greatly increased;
  • with prolonged use of the drug (more than six months), it is necessary to test the level of electrolytes in the blood with a frequency;
  • in the treatment of children, the use of laxatives is an extreme measure;
  • It should be borne in mind that during treatment, a violation of the reflex of the defecation is possible.
  • "Duphalac" does not cause drowsiness and lethargy, that is, does not affect the ability to work.

Also use with caution when:

  • rectal cracks and bleeding;
  • severe pain before treatment.

The price of the drug and its analogues

Price "Duphalac" directly depends on the volume of the bottle. The approximate cost of a small (200 ml) is up to 300 rubles, an average (500 ml) is about 450-500 rubles, a large one (1 l) is more than 700 rubles. Dinolak has a similar effect, comparable to Duphalac at a price (750 rubles per liter), however, in addition to lactulose, it contains simethicone, a substance that breaks gas bubbles. Thus, the advantage of "Dinolaka" is that when it is taken, meteorism is excluded.

There are less expensive analogues of Duphalac, in which lactulose acts as the main active ingredient. Portalak, Goodluck and Normaze are slightly inferior in price with the same composition. Lowest cost "Romfalak" - up to 150 rubles. Also sold replacement "Duphalac" tablets - "Poslabin lactulose", the cost - up to 130 rubles, but this medicine is contraindicated in children under 5 years.

Doctors reviews

I must say that the reviews about the drug as a whole are positive, both among medical practitioners and ordinary consumers.

"Duphalac" is a wonderful laxative medicine suitable for long courses of use for diseases of various etiologies, the effect of which is physiological in nature, and its composition does not cause further addiction, besides, the side effects are minimal.

Andrei Evgenievich, infectious disease specialist from St. Petersburg with 9 years of experience

I prefer drug-free methods of dealing with difficulties with defecation. Lactulose, of course, is a natural substance, but it is contraindicated for lactase intolerance and does not act immediately, in addition, enhances gas formation. Flatulence in children under the age of 3 months causes serious discomfort. So, some babies are even prescribed simethicone or use a vapor pipe. Personally, I often advise my patients to use flax seed infusion, literally 2-3 drops and follow the diet of a nursing mother. The "artificiality" similar problem can be solved by changing the mixture.

Olga Viktorovna, pediatrician with years of experience

What is the opinion of the patients?

"Duphalac" was prescribed to me by a doctor during pregnancy, I confess that for the period he was the only one who saved me from constipation. The drug acted fairly quickly for me in just an hour or two, but sometimes a side effect was manifested - flatulence. In addition, I gave this drug to my newborn baby, there were no problems with the intake, because the syrup is very palatable. I recommend "Duphalac" to anyone who has problems with emptying the intestines. It is a safe, high-quality and effective medicine.

Arianna, 25 years old, Kemerovo

"Duphalac" was used during pregnancy, acted after three days, but it increased gas formation so much that it caused unpleasant sensations, uterine tone increased due to pressure, and also led to frequent urination. That is why in the future I used another drug and tried to eat properly. "

Margarita, 26 years old, Anapa

This drug helped me after an emergency operation to remove hemorrhoids with severe pain. The fact is that I urgently removed the thrombotic hemorrhoids at the 28th week of pregnancy, and on the second day after the surgery I suffered from terrible constipation. She took the medicine on the third day after the node was removed, and on the fifth bowel emptying was not so painful and long.

Olga, 21, Moscow

Thus, Duphalac is a proven and safe remedy for problems with defecation. The only drawback, according to doctors and consumers, is increased gas formation.
