How to adjust the plastic balcony door yourself

PVC doors and windows are an excellent option for an apartment, but even such high-quality products can break, change position - there can be a lot of problems. And if this happened during the warranty period, you can safely call the experts who installed the design. But after the end of the warranty repair can be expensive, because it is so important to know how to adjust the plastic balcony door yourself.

When do you need to adjust the door

Balcony doors made of PVC rarely require preventive adjustment. Moreover, if they work properly, they should not be touched at all, so as not to harm the structure. However, if you notice that the door has started to function not as it should be, most likely, you cannot do without adjustment.

To understand whether adjustment is required, pay attention to the following signs:

  1. The sash begins to hit the threshold (bottom of the frame). Most often this occurs when the product sags under its own weight, since the glass unit itself constitutes a large part of the mass of the entire sash. Moreover, when installing a two-chamber glass unit with glasses with a width of 6 mm or more, the risk of such sagging increases.
  2. The sash begins to cling to the middle part of the frame. This happens with lateral displacement due to temperature fluctuations.
  3. The flap is not reliably pressed against the frame, as a result of which cold air enters the room, despite the presence of a seal. This usually happens when the clamping mechanism malfunctions.
  4. Incomplete placement of the handle, which is characterized by a slight rotation. This problem is easily solved in just a few minutes.
  5. The appearance of even a small crack in the glass, which indicates improper use of the structure or the presence of marriage.
  6. If you have problems with fittings windows.
Adjusting the balcony door and windows may be necessary in 2-3 years, provided that you move into a new home. This is due to the fact that new buildings have a "habit" to settle after construction, which leads to distortions.

Self adjustment of the balcony door

Whatever the cause of the door problem, the following tools will be needed to fix it:

  • hex keys of various sizes;
  • flat and Phillips screwdriver;
  • pliers;
  • roulette;
  • plastic pads;
  • keys of different sizes.

Consider more detailed instructions.

Sagging

When the door touches the bottom of the frame when closing, it is necessary to solve the problem of sagging. In this case, you need to pull the sash up and move it to the top loop. More process looks like this:

  1. We open the sash in the turning position (the important point is not on ventilation).
  2. Using a hex adjustment key (4 mm), turn the screw near the top loop in the end. We make 2-4 turns to the right to attract the sash. Close the door.
  3. From the bottom hinge we remove all plastic decorative caps, which will allow access to the located adjusting screw.
  4. We make several turns to the right, as a result of which the leaf will be raised.
  5. Check the freedom of movement. If necessary, repeat the operation.

Some furniture systems are equipped with an adjusting screw, "sharpened" key-star. Therefore, you should check this in advance and, if necessary, purchase an instrument.

Close up the middle part

In this case, the door must be adjusted so as to move the sash closer to the loop:

  1. Grab the flap to the bottom loop, insert the tool into the side adjusting screw and pull the flap in the direction of the loop.
  2. If it is not enough, we repeat the process for the upper loop according to the principle described above.

Most often, such a procedure is sufficient to ensure that the door leaf does not touch anything when closing or opening.

Pressure problems

Adjusting the clamp is carried out with the use of locking elements, which are located on the sash. Most often, such constructions are equipped with locking elements, having the form of eccentrics - they must be rotated with the help of pliers or an adjusting key, achieving an optimal clamping.

Step by step instruction is as follows:

  1. Eccentrics are located in three places: bottom, top and center.
  2. It is necessary to gradually rotate each element, checking the density of the clamp. True in this case, you can choose the best option only for the handle.
  3. To ensure complete tightness, it is necessary to make an overlay on the hinge side: adjust every third screw at the top and bottom. The most convenient tool for this is the hex key.

Important advice: try to regulate twice a year - in summer and winter. When it gets cooler outside, increase the tightness, loosen it during the warm season - it is not recommended to leave the "winter settings" for the summer, because in this case all the mechanisms and seals will wear out faster.

Work with pen

Adjusting the handle is the easiest task that anyone can handle. The most common problem with these elements is that they begin to loosen over time. The instruction is simple:

  1. Rotate the plastic cap located at the base of the handle 90 degrees.
  2. This will open the screws that need to be tightened with a screwdriver. Work must be very careful not to damage the case.
  3. If the gap still remains, it may indicate the presence of cracks - in this case, the handle will have to be changed.

Vertical and horizontal adjustment

It happens that you need to adjust the position of the sash to the left or to the right, in which case this instruction will help you:

  1. Open the door, remove the screws from the top canopies, for which you need to use a hexagonal screwdriver.
  2. Close the door, remove the pads that cover the screws, adjust them: tighten the screws a little stronger at the top, at the bottom - tighten more. This will avoid distortions.

If you turn the screw clockwise, you can move the door to the hinges, against - in the opposite direction. This instruction will allow adjustment within 0.2 cm.

If the door needs to be slightly raised or lowered, a vertical adjustment must be made. Everything is simple:

  1. Find the screw to adjust, which is located at the bottom of the end. In some models, it closes the cap, it should be removed.
  2. Rotate the screw to the right, if the sash needs to be raised, to the left - if you need to lower it.

Preventive measures

It is very important to adjust the door on time, this will avoid more serious problems. But it is much more useful to know how to prevent such problems.

For example, when choosing windows and balcony doors you need to pay attention to the fittings: it must fully comply with the weight of the sash. Usually it is enough if the fittings can withstand the whole up to 130 kg.

And in order to prevent sagging of the doors, you need to use a lifter or a special compensator: especially this item is required when installing heavy door leaves. The design of such products may be different: from a small lever on the side to a special roller.

You should also install a limiter - supporting tire, which will prevent the sinking of the leaf. It is equally useful to control the installation process of plastic balcony doors:

  • as far as the doors are pressed tightly around the perimeter;
  • is there a shift of the sash vertically or horizontally;
  • whether the door is static in the open position.

If the installation was as successful as possible, then you will not need adjustment for a long time.
