Furacilin is a yellow-green substance with high antimicrobial strength. The drug was created in 1956 by Latvian scientists in collaboration with medical practitioners. This drug compound belongs to the group of antibacterial chemotherapeutic agents, the subgroup is nitrofuran derivatives.
Furacilin stops the growth of pathogenic bacteria and protozoa: various cocci (staphylo - and streptococci), Escherichia coli, salmonella, dysenteric amoeba. The tablet form of the medicine is used for the preparation of solutions, as well as by mouth for certain diseases.
The exclusivity of furatsilina is that it helps in situations where pathogenic bacteria have lost sensitivity to penicillins and sulfonamides.
Of all the known antiseptics, it is most effective against the causative agent of gas gangrene.
The main advantages of furatsilina are the following:

- not absorbed into the bloodstream when used externally;
- does not cause tissue irritation;
- contributes to the processes of granulation and wound healing;

The active ingredient of the drug, nitrofural, acts on the proteins of the microbial cell and modifies their structure, resulting in the death of the bacteria. Nitrofural also enhances the activity of phagocytosis.
Furacilin tablets: instructions for use
In pharmacies, the drug is sold in the form of tablets, powder, or a sterile solution. The easiest way to buy tablets, packaged in contour cells of 10 pieces. Each of them contains 0.02 g of the active substance and 0.8 g of sodium chloride. For external use, a 0.02% solution is usually prepared.
Since nitrofural has a low solubility in water and is slightly soluble in alcohol, the tablet must first be crushed. This can be done with a rolling pin, between two large spoons or crushed directly in the package.
The drug is poured with hot boiled water and continuously stirred until the grains disappear. It is not recommended to use boiling water for cooking: the prepared solution will be bitter, which the kids do not quite like. The recommended water temperature is 60-70 degrees.
In order to prepare the medicine for rinsing, 1 tablet of furatsilina is dissolved in half a glass of water or 0.9% p-re sodium chloride. This solution is suitable for a day. Since nitrofural is poorly preserved under the action of ultraviolet light, the agent is cooled to room temperature, then placed in a dark glass bottle and placed in a refrigerator.
Furacilin is used externally when:
- eye diseases - conjunctivitis, blepharitis;
- inflammation of the oral cavity - stomatitis, gingivitis;

How to dilute furatsilin tablets for washing eyes
For inflammation of the eyelids and conjunctiva, use a 0.02% solution, which is prepared at the rate of 2 tablets per cup of water. The eyes are a delicate organ, therefore they should be washed with special care.
Large undissolved particles can get into the conjunctival sac and injure the mucous membrane. In addition, infection is easy during washing.
In order to prevent any complications, additional manipulations will be required:
- filter the prepared composition through several layers of gauze;
- bring the ready solution to a boil and cool to 37 degrees;
- if it was stored in the refrigerator, it should be heated.
A gauze tampon is plentifully moistened in a liquid, squeeze and process a little mucous membranes of an eyeball and a century. With unilateral inflammation, both eyes are necessarily processed, and for each of them use a separate tampon. Of course, hands should be thoroughly washed before the procedure.
If conjunctivitis has developed in a small child, it is advisable to do the washing each time with a freshly prepared agent. The rinsing solution must be at a warm temperature so that it is comfortable to use.
How to prepare a solution for gargling and rinsing the nose?
For the treatment of mucous membranes used 0.02% aqueous composition, which is prepared according to the above recipe. Since washing the throat should be done repeatedly during the day, it is better to make a large amount of antiseptic agent in advance and put it in the refrigerator.
So how to dilute furatsilin tablets for gargling and rinsing the nose? To do this, dissolve 5 furatsilin tablets in 0.5 liters of hot water and cool.
Be sure to strain so that the solid particles do not scratch the inflamed mucous membranes.
Rinsing with furatsilinom helps with inflammation of the tonsils, pharynx, larynx, procedures are carried out repeatedly during the day - from 5 to 10 times. To enhance the effectiveness of the product, ingredients are added to the liquid:
- a teaspoon of salt or soda;
- 2 tsp. Of hydrogen peroxide;
- a little tincture of calendula (1/2 teaspoon per glass).
First, the throat should be rinsed with clean boiled water to prepare the mucous membranes, remove the accumulated bacteria, detachable, dried crusts. Influencing the peeled tissues, the medicine copes with its function much more effectively.
The mucous membranes of the nose are washed with a freshly prepared solution 5-7 times during the day. The procedure helps with diseases:
- rhinitis, including viral nature;
- sinusitis;
- frontal disease;
- adenoiditis.
Rinsing with furatsilinom removes germs, viruses, allergens and dust particles. After several procedures, the nasal congestion decreases, the amount of mucous and purulent discharges, the nasopharyngeal edema passes.
However, keep in mind that the remedy can provoke nosebleeds, so caution during the manipulation does not hurt. Nasopharynx washing is not prescribed for inflammation of the middle ear and polyps in the nose.
How to dilute furatsilina pill to treat wounds
Damaged areas of the skin become the entrance gate for the introduction of various microbes. Given this possibility, the solution for treating the wound surface must be sterile. At home for disinfection composition is used boiling for half an hour. The concentration of the solution is the same as for the treatment of mucous membranes and is 0.02%. Store the tool in the same container in which it was boiled, tightly closing the lid.
In order to reduce inflammation and accelerate tissue healing, the following methods are used:
- sterile wipes are moistened in an antiseptic fluid and left on the wound surface until dry;
- irrigate damaged surface abundantly;
- if the dressing is dried and adhered to the wound, it is soaked in furatsilina solution and only then carefully removed.
Sometimes for the treatment of scratches and cuts used alcohol solution of nitrofural. To prepare it, you need to crush 3 tablets and stir them into 100 ml of alcohol with a strength of 70%.
Side effects and contraindications
External treatment with furatsilinom associated with the risk of allergic reactions and dermatitis. Therefore, the decision on the appropriateness of the drug remains with the doctor. In some diseases, the use of other medications will be required, and washing with furacilin is performed as an auxiliary procedure.
