Instructions for use of the drug Gerbion dry cough

When treating a dry, torturing cough, which usually interferes with normal life (tears up the throat, wakes at night), Gerbion is often prescribed: a syrup based on plant ingredients that can be given even to children. But before use, it is advisable to consult a doctor and carefully read the instructions for use. This will avoid side effects from taking or after drug overdose.

Composition and release form

The composition of this syrup contains almost only herbal ingredients. The basis of such elements as:

  • water extract of the leaves of plantain;
  • water extract of mallow flowers.

Each of the active components contains 1.25 g per 5 ml of solution. Raw materials are diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 5, which makes the solution concentration "moderate". And the plantain contained in the composition helps to relieve irritation of the mucous membrane, which usually suffers when dry cough.

Also in the composition of Gerbion there are other auxiliary components:

  • 65 mg of ascorbic acid (due to this, the syrup is a mild immunostimulant);
  • 4 g sucrose;
  • 12.5 g of orange oil;
  • preservative E218, which has antiseptic properties.

One of the important advantages of Herbion is its convenient form, because the product is available only in the form of syrup, which greatly facilitates its use for children. Packaging - a small bottle of dark glass with a volume of 150 ml. This amount of syrup may be enough for several courses of treatment. The color of the syrup is brown with a reddish tinge. Attracts children and flavor: a little herbal with orange notes. Thanks to sucrose the syrup is sweet.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Plantain extract contains mucus produced from the leaves during prolonged contact with water. It is because of this property that Herbion softens dry cough - mucus envelops irritated throat. In addition, it is also a protective barrier against a variety of external stimuli that can lead to coughing.

Due to the rich composition using Herbion:

  • sputum expectoration is stimulated, which makes it possible to transfer a dry cough to a wet one - this will speed up the cure process;
  • immunity is strengthened (when taking syrup, interferon is produced, which helps fight infection);
  • cough easier.

The plant extracts contained in the composition facilitate the coughing attacks, but do not eliminate them completely: the time of the attacks is reduced, the feeling of “fighting throat” disappears. Drinking Gerbion at night is not advised.

Indications for taking syrup, contraindications

Doctors prescribe Gerbion syrup as part of complex therapy for pneumonia, tracheitis, bronchitis. Persons who have noticed the first symptoms of the disease can drink it as a preventive measure.

Useful syrup as an independent drug in the following cases:

  • infectious diseases of the respiratory tract;
  • smoker's cough;
  • cough due to inhalation of toxic substances or due to too dry air;
  • strong dry cough of any other etiology.
Due to the fact that the composition of this tool consists mainly of herbal ingredients, the list of contraindications is minimal.

But because of the large amount of sucrose in the composition, it is undesirable to use syrup in the presence of:

  • diabetes;
  • sucrose isomaltase deficiency;
  • stomach ulcers.

Instructions for use Herbion

Most doctors advise to drink syrup with a small amount of warm water or weak tea.

Doctors say that Herbion, like other medicines for dry cough, cannot be used together with antitussives, especially if thick sputum began to appear during treatment.

As often as individual intolerance, there are problems with the absorption of certain synthetic ingredients.

  • itching;
  • hives;
  • skin rash:
  • in severe cases, angioedema.

On the part of the digestive tract, side effects may occur, such as:

In the event of adverse reactions should immediately discontinue treatment and consult a doctor.

Reviews

I smoke long enough, cough unpleasant, exhausting, wakes at night. I tried many drugs, but the licorice root and Herbion helped best, and decided to dwell on the latter, because it is not so sweet. It is worth it though not so cheap, but it is of high quality and pleasant to the taste. And recently, the daughter fell ill, gave her a cough gerbion, also helped.

Irina, 33 years old

A strong dry cough began, and there was no fever, no runny nose, or other symptoms of ARVI. I suffered for four days, after which I went to the pharmacy, where I was advised by Herbion. Saw according to the instructions: 5 times a day and literally in a few days there was an improvement, though for the first time I drank for the night, then I woke up from coughing. But at the same time, the remedy helped quickly enough - literally a couple of days later, the cough didn’t "tear" the throat anymore, then gradually disappeared.
