How to germinate wheat and properly eat it

In our article, we will look at how to germinate wheat for human consumption: how to choose seeds, how they are planted and harvested. Also share tips on the use of planting material for the preparation of moonshine.

What is the use of such a product?

Before you start growing, you should find out what the benefits of this product are, whether it has any contraindications. As those who constantly consume pips for food, they have the following useful properties:

Stabilization of the circulatory system;

  • improvement of the digestive tract;
  • normalization of blood sugar;
  • getting missing the body of vitamins and amino acids.

They are also recommended to use as a tonic.

After a long reception of seeds, the skin becomes healthy, the hair becomes less brittle, in addition, the composition of wheat contains chlorophyll, which has a positive effect on cells.

Like any product, there are contraindications, y:

  • should not be given to children under 12 years old;
  • discard the product for stomach ulcers;
  • do not use together with fermented milk products;
  • Side effects such as flatulence or diarrhea may occur at the beginning of the treatment.

Step-by-step instructions on wheat germination

In fact, germinating wheat is not so difficult - you just need to follow a few simple conditions, which we will discuss in our material.

Wheat selection

Very much depends on the selected grain. It can be purchased:

  1. On the market - the cheapest option. The advantages are that you can thoroughly examine the wheat and even smell it. Unfortunately, with such a purchase, no one will give you a guarantee of whether the grain was treated with chemicals. It is not known how and where the wheat was stored. But you do not need to immediately buy a large batch - you can buy some grain to see what comes of your germination experiment.
  2. In the shop. More expensive option. But at the same time you can be 100% sure that such wheat has not been processed at all, which means that it is environmentally friendly and safe. It is best to buy wheat in transparent bags, which will allow a good view of the contents.
  3. In the Internet. Not the best option, because in this case it is likely to get a "cat in a bag", and for quite decent money. But if you have friends who have acquired grain in this way and are satisfied, take advantage of their experience and select the same store.

Those who support healthy lifestyles, try not to save on food and therefore usually buy wheat and other products in the store, it is safe and secure.

What grains are needed

If you want to use wheat for further nutrition or to make moonshine, you need to choose the seeds themselves. That is why you should carefully consider the information about their preparation. Here are some useful secrets:

  1. Choose special grains - not for sowing (the latter are used when sprouting plants for chickens and other pets).
  2. Seeds can be stored no more than a year.
  3. Before buying, you should examine their appearance: the grain should not be damaged, dark spots.

Soak

Before you begin to germinate a plant, the grains should be soaked for a couple of hours, then rinse thoroughly in clean water.

Also, one should not germinate a large number of grains at once - about 100 g sprouts are enough for one person.

Place the soaked grains in clay or glass containers and cover with water: only those left at the bottom of the tank can be consumed, and the emerged grains should be thrown away.

The first stage of soaking takes about 6 hours, after which the water needs to be changed and left to soak again, which will avoid bitterness.

Germination conditions

In order for the kernels to germinate, the following conditions should be created:

  1. The optimum temperature should be about +22 degrees.
  2. The seed container should be in a dark and warm room.
Wheat seeds need to be washed three times a day, using cold water, this will ensure the access of nutrient fluid to the kernels, to avoid the appearance of mold.

Phased sprouting

In fact, this is nothing complicated - you just need to follow the instructions. Events will be held as follows:

  1. We take a glass of seeds, fill it with water.
  2. Leave on soaking (according to the above instructions).
  3. After soaking (after 24 hours), pour the grains onto a platter, cover with moistened gauze.
  4. After 12 hours, the seeds begin to germinate.

After the first sprouts appear in the seeds, they should be covered with paper or cotton cloth, sprinkled with water a little and sent to storage in a warm and bright place. If during the next two days the kernels do not slip, it means that you did something wrong or bought low-quality material.

Over the next day periodically sniff the product: the aroma should be pleasant, not harsh. If it smells sour, you need to immediately wash the seeds with clean water, this will avoid damage.

Wheat Use Tips

After the first sprouts appeared, wheat can be eaten - either separately from the seeds, or by adding them to cereals.

But there is one important rule - they can be used in food in the form of seeds only if the length of the shoots does not exceed 3 mm. In this case, there are only two options: throw out or use wheat in the form of greenery, which is also useful.

In the latter case, you will need soil or sawdust: at the bottom of the selected container, we pour the mixture in layers up to 1 cm, wet it well, but not so that the seeds then float in water. Pour on top of a layer of sawdust in 0.5 mm, on top - seeds.

Capacity cover with a film or glass, set in a warm place. Once a day, be sure to open the "lid" to ensure the access of air and avoid condensation. Usually shoots appear already on the third day after planting. As soon as the first shoots appear, you can safely remove the shelter and rearrange the container with wheat on the bright window sill.

Literally in one and a half weeks it will be possible to cut off the first greens, and you don’t need to tear them off - use scissors. Moisten the remaining sprouts once more and leave them to grow, in about 3-4 days you can get a new portion of greenery. It can be used in the preparation of salads, smoothies.

The amount of greenery obtained depends on the choice of substrate: if you germinate grains in the ground, you can cut no more than 4 times, in sawdust - three times. Undoubtedly, the plant will continue to develop normally, except that there will be no more nutrients in the green.

A few words about the preparation of moonshine

Wheat germinated not only for food, but also for the preparation of moonshine. In this case, the process itself looks similar, only the moment of determining the degree of readiness is different. If you stop growing the plant ahead of time, it can lead to the fact that the fragmentation of starch does not end, because of which the fermentation process is delayed.

And too late "harvesting" can be the reason that the seeds will consume all the available carbohydrates, as a result of moonshine will turn out to be of poor quality.

Focus on signs such as:

  1. The length of the green - sprouts should not be less than 1.5 cm.
  2. Sprouted greens should smell like fresh cucumbers.
  3. The roots and sprouts of the plant are intertwined.

It is possible to use the wort for three days - it is no longer necessary to store, since rot and mold can appear due to high humidity.

Useful recommendations

The following tips will help you facilitate the process of growing this plant at home:

  1. You should not ask the seller in the market about the expiration date, since it will cost you nothing to lie to you. It is best to look at the color and evaluate the smell: the grains should smell good, the color should be golden or dark beige.
  2. If you want to eat sprouted wheat daily, you should stream it "production". In order not to be confused in the containers, just sign them, indicating the date of sowing.
  3. Some advise to germinate wheat in a glass jar, simply by pouring seeds there. This is undesirable, since there will not be enough air for the development of the lower layer of grains. In addition, the germination rate will be different. For the same reason, do not germinate seeds in two or more layers.
  4. Those who were engaged in germination, argue that if a muddy spot appears on the water, it is a sign of the presence of pesticides (that is, the seeds were processed before being sold). However, this can happen when using too hard or chlorinated water. Also, the appearance of the film may be due to the fact that during the preparation you have poorly washed the grain.

You can also hear the advice - to grow grains in the refrigerator, they say, in this case will not appear mold. It is necessary to call such a recommendation quite doubtful, since germination in the cold increases the period compared to storing the grains in a warm place. Secondly, if you don’t wash the planting material, a mold will still appear on it.
